All current Android phones to get 2.1
Feb 27th
According to AndroidandMe, every current Android phone will get Android 2.1, but some may require a wipe of the current ROM.
As stated in their website; “After talking with several inside sources familiar with the matter, I would like to report that every Android phone currently released in the United States will be receiving an upgrade to Android 2.1.
Some phones could be missing features of Android 2.1 (live wallpapers), but they will all have an Android 2.1 firmware.”
The G1 and myTouch 3G will be the initial 1st gen devices to receive the update.
Fixing things with Linpack App and Reporting
Feb 21st
I’m slowly getting some things fixed with the Linpack for Android app. I’m adding information about MHz used and hopefully some reporting directly into the app on where it scores on the master list.
I’ve also fixed a big error on my part dealing with MFLOPS. For some reason, I had it listed here and in the app as Mflops/s. Oops, that would mean Million of Floating Point Operations per second per second. It would be cool to measure acceleration, but that is not what it reports.
Dalvik Turbo Video

Google is a wonderful thing….
Found the following videos on YouTube from Myriad showing the Dalvik Turbo running a simple quick sort and a 3D cube benchmark.
Droid running at 50.592 MFLOPS
Feb 12th
So I check out the top devices list and see a score of 50.592 MFLOPS for a Droid from Jw52637. Wow, 50.592!!
How did Jw52637 get that? Is he/she running the new Dalvik Turbo? or was it overclocked to the point it was melting?
I hope it’s the Dalvik Turbo. As Myriad said in their press release the other day; “Dalvik Turbo increases application execution speed by up to three times ‐ allowing OEMs and operators to bring smoother delivery and more complex applications to Android phones, while also providing substantial battery life improvements when running resource intensive tasks. It also enables developers to take full advantage of Android, allowing them to create games boasting advanced graphics and complex models while retaining full compatibility with existing software.”
Android update after Froyo
Feb 9th
It was leaked out in a post on LWN.net that the next Android release after Froyo is going to be called “Gingerbread”
As Brian Swetland posted: “We maintain a set of patches on top of Linux, which we periodically rebase to the latest released Linux kernel. We’ve been doing this roughly every other kernel release since about 2.6.14. This week we’re finalizing our move to 2.6.32 for the Android “Froyo” release, and we’ll likely be on .33 or .34 for “Gingerbread”.”
I’ve also noticed a fewLinpack runs using Froyo, so how about posting some times???
